Te Kara o Ngati Hine

Te Kara o Ngāti Hine ki te whakakotahi i ngā mana pukepuke rau o Ngāti Hine i runga i ō tātou whanaungatanga, taonga, whenua, tīkanga.

Moko Kauae: In the centre of the flag represents a Moko Kauwae. It is a Ngāti Hine design. This Moko is in recognition of our tūpuna Hineamaru herself, and all those prestigious Ngāti Hine women of the past.

Ngā Maunga (Ngāti Hine Pukepuke Rau): The green mountains represents the many areas and hapū ririki of Ngati Hine. On every mountain there is a chief.

The Ngāti Hine Pattern: The diamond pattern shape is the only Ngāti Hine pattern known which is one from the korowai of Kawiti. Therefore, it is in recognition of Kawiti and his many achievements.

Mangu (Black): Te Kore (in the beginning there was Nothing, darkness, the long, long night).

Kōwhai (Yellow): Ki te Whaio ki Te Ao Marama (then there was light). This talks about clarity and decision making.

Whero (Red): Ngā Toto i Te Wehenga o Ranginui rāua ko Papatūānuku. The blood that parted Rangi and Papa. Te tohu o Ngā Rangatira (The Signs of leadership).

Kākāriki (Green): E Kore e Maroke te Whenua me Ngā Maunga (The land and the mountains will be fertile and will never go dry).

Te Kara o Ngati Hine was unveiled in 2000 at the Ngāti Hine Kapa Haka festival and is now flying on all Ngāti Hine Marae.
